# Set value

> Then action: Write a literal or another field’s answer into a target field.

**Set value** writes an answer into a target field when **When** matches.

* Value can be a typed literal or **Answer of…** another field (`@ref`).
* Writes feed later rules in the same evaluation pass (like Calculate).
* On fill, the value appears in the respondent’s live answers.
